High Density Mobile Shelving

Sometimes a project constraint is that the relatively low ceilings in a facility will not allow for vertical storage of material. Or, maybe the facility doesn’t have the required electrical system to power an automated storage and retrieval system.

A high density mobile shelving system can assist in maximizing or recouping valuable floor space.

The high density mobile shelving systems consist of high density shelving or other storage units mounted on steel carriages with wheels that roll back and forth or side to side on steel rails surface mounted or recessed in the concrete slab. Because the shelving is mounted on the movable carriages, the carriages do not require multiple aisles in order to access each row of shelving. The carriages can be rolled right or left in order to access the needed row of shelving. It's basically a ‘floating’ aisle.

If your operation requires multiple aisle access, you can include more than one aisle, but you will still save floor space by not needing an aisle for every row of shelving.

On average, a high density mobile shelving system saves 50% of the needed floor space required by a static shelving layout with the same storage capacity.

1. 1000 Series

The 1000 Series is a High Density Mobile Shelving System that can support carriage loads of 1,000 pounds per linear foot. This model can support wide span, light duty pallet racking, or modular drawered cabinets and heavier items. So, you can store just about anything you can imagine on the 1000 series high density mobile shelving system.

The 1000 series can accommodate an overall row length of 51 feet. And, it is available in manual or mechanical assist configurations. Military, Federal government entities, local government organizations, as well as, industrial and commercial businesses have utilized mobile shelving systems to consolidate supplies, repair parts, test equipment, repair and maintenance parts, tools, sports equipment, medical device kits, and more. Manufacturing and engineering managers have utilized the space savings afforded by a well-designed rolling shelf system to free up valuable floor space for increased production.

No single storage system offers as much versatility and modularity as a high density mobile shelving system. And, if your facility does not have tall ceilings or the available vertical space for storage systems, an easy option to consider is a heavy duty, mobile shelf system.

And, facilities that do not have the power source available to operate automated storage and retrieval systems can easily install a mechanical assisted or manual mobile shelving system.

2. Low Profile

If your facility has low ceilings, 7’-8’overall clearance, you may still be able to utilize a high density mobile shelving system. We can utilize a low profile design in your high density mobile storage system that will reduce the clearance required and help your layout meet sprinkler and fire code requirements. The low profile design carriages have a maximum load capacity of 750 pounds per linear foot. And, this system allows for a total of 24 feet of carriage length in a single row.

3. Lateral | Side-to-Side

In some situations, due to floor spacing or room layout, a standard high density mobile system may not fit properly. In such cases, a side-to-side or lateral carriage mobile shelving system may be a possible solution. The side-to-side shelving solution offers shelving or light duty racking that slides left to right or along the face of the shelving. You slide the sections of shelving left or right to access the row behind the front row. These systems are available in 2 or 3 deep configurations. Hospital storage rooms, file rooms and small tool rooms are great examples of locations where a side-to-side shelving system can increase storage capacity in a confined space.

4. Rotary Cabinet

Rotary file cabinets are a type of high density file storage system designed to primarily store paper files, binders or documents. They are a great solution if your goal is to store a high quantity of paper documents on an above ground level floor in a building. An above ground floor typically is not designed to accommodate the high load capacities required by a high density mobile shelving system. Rotary file cabinets require a lower floor load capacity to adhere to building codes. Rotary cabinets are simply two back to back sections of shelving in a boxed enclosure that ‘rotate’ about a center axis. In order to access the section of shelving in the back, you simply spin the shelving. You can increase your file storage capacity by almost half in just a little more space required by a lateral file cabinet layout.
